Padappakara (Malayalam: പടപ്പക്കര) is a place known for its natural beauty in the Kollam district of Kerala, India. The name "Padappakara" derives from the name "Pada-Kappal-Kara", which means "naval ship yard". Between 1400 AD to 1850 AD this place was used as a safe harbour during the monsoon by the wooden merchant and naval ships. It include area's like Nellimukku (Malayalam: നെല്ലിമുക്ക്), Kuthiramunambu (Malayalam: കുതിരമുനപ്), Thenguvila (Malayalam: തെങ്ങുവിള) and Aanappara (Malayalam: ആനപ്പാറ),pulliakkody,vedanmukku,anchumoolapoika,chanakkody,chonkil,valathil,poolakkody etc.
Padappakkara was largely an unpopulated area till the 1930s. Mass migration of people started in late 1950s. Many areas in Padappakkara now resemble a suburb. Today Padappakkara has a population of around 3000. Initial immigrants to Padappakara were farmers and fishermen from neighboring areas like Koduvila, Sinkarapally, Pattakadavu, Kumbalam etc. Comparatively low land prices was the driving factor behind the immigration.
Padappakara is now the most favourite tourist destination in kollam district of kerala. The sunset here is most beautiful during april - may months.

The land of padappakara has a great potential for tourism. Unlike Munro islands padappakara is still away form limelight of mass media and tourism department.
